I live in Farnham, Surrey with my wife and two boys, plus two cats! When I’m not busy at work or looking after the kids, I’m typically running or biking in the countryside or playing sport, with badminton and softball being my main sports of choice.
I grew up in Weston-super-Mare, went to Southampton University to study Electronics. I worked on mobile phone design for a few years, worked at a high tech consultancy for several more before joining bp where I have had a number of roles in IT.

I primarily work with data from our petrol(gas) stations across Europe. We gather data such as the volume of petrol sold at the pump or the items you put in your shopping basket. As you can imagine there are millions of transactions each week so we have a lot of data to manage and work with. We then process this data so we can see how we are performing and whether we are selling more or less, and if we are making or losing money. This is really important for our business so that they can make good decisions and improve how we run our petrol stations.
I’m also really passionate about data visualisation (charts, dashboards, etc) and how presenting information the right way can help people make good decisions.

My Typical Day:
I normally wake up, have a shower and then look after the kids whilst my wife gets ready. Then it’s to the computer! I typically have a daily call with the team to talk about what we are going to be working on and then various meetings to look at problems and solutions throughout the day.

The Daily Stand-up is an important meeting every day for the team to talk about progress and where they have problems and need help. It help’s to chat about things so we all have the same understanding. We also have a bigger meeting every two weeks to look at plan and if we are going to meet our deadlines. We also always talk about how we can improve
Throughout the day I meet and have calls with the team and the customers of the reports we are building. We need to make sure the data is correct and giving the right answers.
I also have various calls on other ideas and activities I am involved in as people want me to provide my thoughts on how to work with data.
I sometimes have time to work on my own activities, but as a manager I spend less time on this than earlier in my career!
