I have lots of small jobs rather than one I do all the time. Some of them aren’t even anything to do with science! But the science research and teaching parts of my work are always interesting and rewarding – absolutely. I am very lucky πŸ™‚

I enjoy my job. I develop algorithms which can identify certain hormonal disorders in babies and children and thus help in early diagnosis, and consequently early treatment of those conditions. Some of these conditions are life-threatening. So it gives me immense satisfaction that my work help doctors save some lives. Also since my models are transparent/ explainable, they also extract knowledge from the dataset they were trained on. Some of the extracted information was previously unknown to the doctors/ medical science, thus it helps in enriching the medical domain knowledge as well.
Sure it is challenging at times but once the challenge is overcome the satisfaction of having completed the task greater. πŸ™‚

Yes – I like writing code and finding things about about viruses. I don’t like every minute of every day but on the whole it’s a pretty good job.

I take it as a privilege to work and collaborate with people around me. We share the same mindset and ability to chat freely is great bonus on top of that. The real value is not exactly in what you do – but with whom you happen to work. So always choose your work based on your future colleagues and not on the title.

I love my job. At school, I felt very unproductive and none of my subjects was relevant to my career. Coming into the workplace and seeing the impact my work has on the company and my team made me feel fulfilled and valued in a way I had never felt in education. People are passionate about their work and my work has a direct impact on my colleagues and company.

I would say I enjoy *most* of my job. There are parts that aren’t so great, as I suspect there probably are in any job, and there are parts which are delightful. And sometimes the things which before I do them are a little bit terrifying turn out to be the most rewarding. I used to be really scared of public speaking, for example, but I’ve learned to really enjoy working an audience, even if I still have butterflies in my stomach before I stand up. Not that I’ve done much of that in the last few months!

Yes, I love my job. I get to ask questions, make discoveries, and work with scientists from all over the world. Most importantly, I work with a lot of supportive people who make working really fun.

Yes, I love my job. I collaborate with some fantastic people and I have found a good balance between things that I really enjoy and things that just need to get done. There are trying times, but all in all its a rewarding job.

Yes! I’m good at it, and people know I’m good at it. But that’s not why I love my job – it’s a small reason, but not the whole reason. The biggest reason I love my job is that I work with awesome people, people who are smart, kind, funny, fun, accomplished, and each uniquely amazing. I always say that I could be asked to do the hardest job or the most boring job, and as long as I’m working with great people, that job is going to be easy and fun. Conversely, I could be asked to do something I am the best at in the world and be super unhappy doing it if stuck with horrible people. The people who surround you make all the difference in the world!

Yes! Of course there’s a few boring parts every now and again, but in general I really like my job. I enjoying learning about new technologies and discovering ways of tricking them into behaving in bad ways that the designers never intended. I then have to invent ways to stop those bad things from happening. It’s like a big puzzle or game. Although it’s a game where the consequences of losing can be very serious. If I don’t do my job well then companies or people could lose a lot of money, or have their personal data stolen. In some extreme cases a hacker could interfere with machinery or factories, leading to environmental disasters or people getting hurt/killed. So it’s very rewarding to know that whilst I may be having fun in my job, I’m also making a very real difference to people’s lives – even if those people never know it!

I do love my job though not all the time – just like everything in life. But I enjoy writing codes to apply on data which makes it easy to make informed decisions during crucial, sometimes life changing situations. Part of my job is training and coaching the next generation of data scientist – that the bit I found most interesting and fulfilling.πŸ˜†

When things are going well I am very happy indeed. I think the important thing for me is that I continue to make progress even if things haven’t quite gone to plan. Of course there are days when progress stops so those aren’t such great days. However, because my job is basically very interesting and challenging I do like my job.
